QUOTES
The truly creative mind in any field is no more than this: A human creature born abnormally, inhumanely
sensitive. To him...
a touch is a blow, a sound is a noise, a misfortune is a tragedy, a joy is an ecstasy, a friend
is a lover, a lover is a god, and failure is death.
Add to this cruelly delicate organism the overpowering necessity to create, create, create--so that without
the creating of music or poetry or books or buildings or something of meaning, his very breath is cut off from him. He must
create, must pour out creation. By some strange, unknown, inward urgency he is not really alive unless he is creating.
--Pearl Buck--
#Vain, boastful talk repels acts of kindness and tears the branch of mercy from the trunk of the
tree. Speak honestly or else be silent, and then behold grace and delight in it.
-Rumi, "Mathnawi" [III, 751-752]
#Why should I grieve because of a thorn? Once it had made laughter known to me. Whatever you lost through
the stroke of destiny, know it was to save you from adversity. One small affliction keeps off greater afflictions; one small
loss prevents greater losses.

#The life of this world is merely a sport; it is only an idle pastime. The true life is the life to
come—if you only knew it.

#The truest and highest stage of worship is to see God face to face, and to receive his guidance from
his own mouth. Those who attain this highest stage, choose for themselves whatever God chooses for them. Their entire characters
are transformed by God. They are God's friends; so they no longer discriminate between people, but regard all people as friends.
Wherever they go, they go from God; wherever they arrive, they arrive at God. Whatever they do, they do for God; whatever
service they perform, they perform it in God. The self has been truly annihilated.
-Junayd, "Tawhid"
#Russell Miller said, "You don't learn a lot from the good things that happen to you; you learn a lot from your challenges
and struggles." How right he is. Think about how your life is different because of the challenges that you have encountered
along the way. As much as we hate to admit it, challenges breed strength, endurance, and improved opportunities
Think about this. When you go to someone for advice or sympathy, do you choose someone who never had a challenge in his
or her life, whose attitudes and opinions are untried in the world. No, you go to the one who has overcome adversity, learned
from challenges, persevered through trial and achieved success. This is the person whose opinion we value.
So, next time something heartbreaking happens to you, take courage in the thought that you, like the pebble in the river,
are being honed and smoothed, refined and transformed into something more beautiful, more successful, and more effective than
you ever thought possible
Coming together is the beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success. -- Henry Ford
#"Success isn't what makes you happy. It really isn't. Success is doing what makes you happy and doing good work and hopefully
having a fruitful life. If I've felt like I've done good work, that makes me happy. The success part of it is all gravy."
~ Phillip Seymour Hoffman ~
#"I think education is one of the greatest tools for most kids not only to expand their book knowledge, but their ability
to experience new things - I think it opens more doors than any other experience I can think of."
~ Will Estes, Reunion ~
#I struggled hard but did not reap the fruits of
my labors. Then I gazed into myself and found that my ego and my heart were unified. When the ego and the heart are united,
a portion of all that shines upon the heart is seized by the self. Thus I came to know the cause of my dilemma, that the light
illuminating my heart was being seized by my ego.
-Al-Nuri,
in "Islamic Sufism"
#The Most Important Things... And YOU Can Control Them
Think seriously about this...
Anxiety and fear strips away courage and makes great performances impossible. Doubt makes even the best
decisions feel difficult and causes procrastination. Anger rips your focus away from your goals. Frustration
can only serve to make you quit. Guilt makes it impossible to enjoy any successes you achieve. Jealousy
and envy create dishonesty, hate and corruption.
Your thoughts and emotions are the only things that can truly
stop you.
